Keeping your PAP device Clean amidst COVID-19

Before this pandemic, we all would clean our PAP equipment at least once per week but, now this is just not enough for the time being. One must be more diligent in this cleaning process, especially if you have been out and about amongst others. So, here are some easy steps to help you in this new time of COVID-19

  1. Clean everything minimally 4 times per week. Optimally would be daily😉
  2. Use Dawn unscented dish soap and warm water to soak and wash your PAP supplies for 20 minutes. This includes the reusable/washable filter, tubing, entire mask taken apart - Yes, the headgear too, water chamber, and tubing cover if you use one.
  3. Once this washing has been completed, then rinse everything EXCEPT the headgear in a 1:3 white vinegar/warm water mixture
  4. Rinse thoroughly. When you think you have rinsed enough, rinse some more in warm water
  5. Place all your clean parts on a clean handtowel to air dry *Would be wise to do this first thing in the morning to allow dry time
  6. Also, wipe down the outside of your PAP device with a damp (not wet) clean washcloth with the Dawn/warm water, then the vinegar solution. Only damp! This will dry quickly and do not get any dampness into any electrical ports.

Those of you that use sanitizing devices, such as the Lumin, Zoey, or SoClean still must clean. These devices sanitize against mold, viruses, and bacteria, they do no clean off skin oils or film from cushions, nasal pillows, and water chambers.

Make sure to check your disposable/throw away filters weekly. If they are not white, change it out. Whatever color it is, is going into your lungs. Take it out, put it on a white piece of paper and see the true color. This photo below is NOT acceptable to your lung and sinus health.
